Summary

Being the largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife has some incredible surf that will suit surfers of all skill levels. It also is the most visited island of the archipelago, mostly because of its amazing landscapes, volcanoes, hikes, beaches and of course its waves.

The Canary Islands are known as the European Hawaii due to their powerful reef breaks and volcanic features. Weather is also warm and dry throughout the year, making it an ideal surfing destination.

Almaciga, on the north side of the island, has a whole range of decent waves that will work on most days through winter. Although this region is pretty remote, it remains one of the best places on Tenerife to base yourself on a surf trip.

Bajamar could be another good option, being more accessible and also giving you access to many decent surf spots on the north and west sides of the island.

The south side, with Playa de Las Americas is busier and more touristy. However, this is where most of the nightlife will be located on Tenerife with numerous restaurants and resorts in the area. There are also some great surfing beaches in this part of Tenerife.

On top of having great surf, Tenerife is also home to Spain’s highest mountain, Mount Teide, making it a great hiking destination. It could also be a great activity if you get unlucky and hit a few days of flat surf.
