Summary
Barra de la Cruz is a world-class surf spot located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, a bit more than 100km south of Puerto Escondido.
It is an extremely fun and rippable wave with some barreling sections and potential ramps to take it to the air. Barra de la Cruz usually pricks up less swell than the rest of the coast. Therefore, if Puerto Escondido gets to 8 feet, Barra will probably be half that size. However, when it does turn on, it is one of Mexico’s best wave.
Surfing in Barra is usually more recommended for surfers with a certain experience due to potential currents, crowd management and just the overall wave’s quality.
When to go
The best time to surf Barra de la Cruz is from April to November, during Mexico’s rainy season. That is when south swells pick up in size and consistency and turn most surf spots on the Mexican coastline into wave machines.
