Surfing is a challenging sport and before being able to charge waves of consequence like Pipeline or Teahupo’o, most intermediate surfers will have to improve their skills on quality waves. 

Here is a list of 10 waves and surf spots which are perfect for intermediate surfers to take their surfing to the next level!

 

1. Manu Bay, New Zealand

Manu Bay is the main break in Raglan, is a great surf town for intermediate surfers. This long left-hand point break is super consistent and isn’t too heavy or scary. It is a great surf spot for intermediate surfers to practice their rail game on a safe, yet punchy wave.

 

 

2. Superbank, Australia

Located in Coolangatta, on Australia’s east coast, Superbank is an amazing point break running over a man made sand bar which creates a perfect wave for surfers of all levels. While being one of the most crowded wave in the world, intermediate surfers can have a lot of fun riding this long wave all the way to Kirra.

 

 

3. Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka

5. Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa

Jeffrey’s Bay is a higher skill level wave than most spots on that list being a fast right-hand track with some challenging hollow sections. However, an intermediate surfer looking for a great challenge will have a blast surfing down in Jeffrey’s Bay!

 

 

6. Anchor Point, Morocco

Anchor Point is one of Morocco’s most famous surf spots due to its consistency and overall wave quality. It is a perfect point break which tends to get heavy on larger swells but on most days, intermediate surfers can have an absolute blast at Anchor Point. Taghazout is a famous surf town next to Anchor Point and is a great place to stay on a surf trip to Morocco!

 

 

7. Playa Colorado, Nicaragua

Playa Colorado is a perfect surf spot for intermediate surfers to practice their barrel riding skills on a safe, sandy ocean bottom. In Nicaragua, almost every day has offshore wind so you don’t have to worry about conditions consistency and you can just focus on surfing all day, every day.

 

 

8. Uluwatu, Indonesia

Uluwatu is one of the best left-hand waves in the world and a great surf spot for intermediate surfers. When Uluwatu is on, it is a long, sometimes hollow wave that is absolutely picture perfect. If the crowd is too heavy, you can always explore the rest of Bukit Peninsula and score Padang Padang or Balangan.

 

 

9. Honolua Bay, Hawaii

Honolua Bay is a great winter surfing spot on the north-west side of the island of Maui. If Hawaii is often seen as an advanced surfing destination, it is also a great place for intermediate surfers to improve their surfing and get out of their comfort zone. During winter, waves in Hawaii can often reach 10 feet+ in size.
